The Trans Cuenca MTB Tour is a tour of Empty Spain; along the western slope of Cuenca, the so-called “Serrania de Cuenca”. There is, at the moment, a 6-day version (5 days riding) of Tour and another of 7 days (6 days riding). And in the “Assisted Route” version, you can do a 6-day version in which the last stage, the section from Cañada del Hoyo to Cuenca, is shortened. That is, from 73.20 km and 1,138 m to 65.43 and 1,048 m, leaving a much more reasonable stage.

The Trans Cuenca MTB Tour can be linked with Trans Teruel (https://www.transteruel.com/ ), with a small connecting stage (and in fact, the route enters the province of Teruel punctually). In this way, a new proposal of 11 or 12 days of route can be made, linking both routes. We have that option prepared for fans of long BTT routes.

However, there is an important difference between the Trans Teruel and the Trans Cuenca. While the Trans Teruel made a circular route of almost 320º around Teruel, the Trans Cuenca MTB Tour (both in the 6-day and 7-day versions) only covers the eastern side of Cuenca. Partly because the western side is next to the Community of Madrid, very far from the concept of “Empty Spain”. And partly because there are still 2 or 3 stages pending to prepare future proposals; both on the north-west side (crossing the Sierra de Bascuñana), and on the south-west side, towards Albacete. However, it will continue to be the western side, which includes the “España Vacía” (Empty Spain).

Finally, it should be noted that the proposal includes the night before the first day of cycling. In all cases.

Normal Option and Assisted Option.

The Trans Cuenca MTB Tour, like the Trans Teruel or the Trans Bierzo MTB, can be done in two ways: Normal and Assisted. In both options, luggage transport is included. But in the Assisted Option, the accompaniment of an assistance vehicle is also included. This carries, in addition to the luggage, various tools (the most common) and various spare parts. Also, in the assistance vehicle, a variety of fruit, pastries, biscuits, juices… are included. All of this allows you to have some picnics / refreshments during the route. Because there are not always bars or restaurants among the mountains, in the Serranía de Cuenca. Thus, in the Assisted version, in addition to being able to easily access the luggage during the route, other services are included with a small supplement.

Trans Cuenca 7 Days Tour Normal and 7 Days Tour Assisted.

The 7 Days Tour is a magnificent exploration of Cuenca. Starting from the city itself, the circular route takes in the main attractions of the province. Thus, you will ride through a large number of places of interest: from the Lagunas de las Cañadas del Hoyo to the Callejones de la Majadas; or from the spectacular Source of the Río Cuervo to the Torcas or the wonderful Uña reservoir. In the context of the Serranía de Cuenca, full of deer, fallow deer, roe deer, you will discover a landscape of impressive forests, enormous forests.

Trans Cuenca 6 Days Tour

Trans Cuenca 6 Days Assisted Tour.

The route of the Trans Cuenca Btt Assisted Tour option varies very little from the normal 6-day version. In fact, the last stage ends in Cañada del Hoyo, not in Cuenca. And the assistance vehicle can pick up vehicles parked in Cuenca. In any case, this is a 6-day route with a total of 305 km and 5,505 m of accumulated elevation gain. None of the stages is excessively demanding: the routes are 55 to 65 km (the longest) but the accumulated elevation gains are in no way excessive (between 950 and 1,357 m. positive accumulated). The vast majority are on fast tracks, with good rolling, with very few sections of paths or slow paths… In fact, the longest stage (67.24 km) is the one with the lowest accumulated elevation gain (957 m.), being entirely on fairly rolling tracks.

And with the confidence of a vehicle that will accompany you during all the days of the route, with supplies, tools, spare parts… In addition, it is very convenient to be able to leave a jacket during the route or pick up some gloves from the luggage.

Trans Cuenca 6 days Direct Tour

The direct version differs from the normal version in that the route does not go through Cuenca city. Thus, the route makes much more sense because in a 62.99 km stage it goes from Cañada del Hoyo to Uña, without detouring towards Cuenca.

And it is that this route, passing through Cuenca, the most sensible thing is to do the normal 7 days Tour version (actually 6 days of route) because all the stages have a “reasonable” mileage. The normal 6 days Tour version (actually 5 days of route) does not end in Cañada del Hoyo but “forces” to end in Cuenca, given that, Cuenca being the starting point, the participants’ vehicles will probably be there. This entails a huge last stage of 73 km, to Cuenca. In the 6-day assisted version of the Route, the problem of the link between Cañada del Hoyo and Cuenca is solved with the assistance vehicle, which accompanies the clients to pick up the vehicles in Cuenca.

But, obviously, the ideal solution for the 6-day version is the 6-day Direct Route, which, leaving from Cañada del Hoyo (not from Cuenca), makes a first stage of almost 63 km to Uña. And thus the “equation” of how to convert a 7-day route into a 6-day one is solved, maintaining “reasonable” stages.
